Glycine tabacina, G. tomentella and G. dolichocarpa are three perennial wild soybean species native to Taiwan. Glycine tabacina and G. tomentella are used as the source plant of I-Tiao-Gung, a Chinese herb, for many years in King-Men and Pong-Fu in Taiwan. The study was designated to compare the species and amount of isoflavones and to develop a multi-component HPLC method to qualify and quantify the isoflavone contents of the three species. The roots had the highest total isoflavone content among different organs in these wild soybean species. Except for the seeds of G. tomentella, the content of daidzein was the highest among the four isoflavones in all organs. G. tabacina had the highest total isoflavone content in the roots and stems among the three species, G. tomentella had the highest total isoflavone content in the leaves, while G. dolichocarpa had the highest total isoflavone content in the seeds. Significant differences in isoiflavone contents exist among species as well as organs. This study are suitable for serving as selection and quality parameters in Glycine germplasm collected programs and as Chinese herbs
