Training and extension should achieve organizer's goals and meet the trainees' requirement. There are two goals for organization to start a training and extension program. 1. To provide some special technique and/or knowledge to people which they can use these technique and/or knowledge to find a job or to improve their working efficiency or quality, or to improve their living quality and/or spiritual life, e.g., leisure activities. 2. The organization wants to achieve some ideas. Those ideas usually more advanced in thinking and have advantages for the world or for the mankind. They may not have direct advantages for individual immediately, e.g., environmental protection, animal welfare, etc. If we want to achieve our goal for the first kind of trainees, we need to provide trainees: (1) The course they need. We have to remember different kinds of trainees have different needs. (2) Hands on training. It also depends on the duration of course and the people who will be the trainees. (3) Whole picture. It is very important to provide trainees whole picture but not only one point. If the training subject is a specific point, we have to mention the relation between the specific point and the whole picture. If we want to achieve our goal for training the second kind of trainees, we have to give trainees the following training programs. If the trainees are from government or private company, which the program is supported by their company, the program will include: (1) The same program as 1st kind we mentioned before. (2) If the trainees are from private farms or the company which they have low motivation to attend the training program, in this case we have to mix production information with the subject we want them to learn to attract those people to come. For example, livestock waste management is a subject, which usually needs to add some investment in but without direct benefit for them. We may either include following programs in our training program: animal production or compost and methane production, or the compost related to the fertilizer used in organic farms. We did try both methods and we did get very good response. Based on the above discussion, we believe the ECLWM training and extension program belongs to the second kind of training program.
