Electrochemical process can be used to
finishing high purity components of SUS 316L to
make them shine and without leaving residual
stress, micro-cracks, etc. In this paper, we
proposed three kinds of electrochemical
processes which are held executed in our Lab.
Three kinds of processes mentioned above are
electropolishing process, electrochemical buffing
process and electrophoretic polishing process.
Electropolishing process applies electrochemical
characteristics in the surface finishing process.
The surface of the workpiece is covered a
viscous layer that can generate an enrichment of
chromium oxide layer (Cr2O3) during the process.
In our research, the electropolishing process
parameters are selected, such as electrical
current density, degree of vacuum and polishing
time to conduct the EP experiment. The
experimental results implemented to show that
the surface roughness and surface pitting hole
are improved.
Electrochemical buffing process (ECB) applies
electrochemical and mechanical finishing
characteristics in the surface finishing process.
Generally, the control parameters of the ECB
process are electricity density, buffing head
revolutions, working pressure on the surface,
concentration of electrolyte and buffing time, etc.
The optimal control parameters of an ECB
process with robust performance were found
and can insure surface quality and process
reliability.
Electrophoretic polishing applies electrophoretic
phenomenon and mechanical finishing
characteristics in the surface finishing process.
The voltage is applied between a polished
mounted to the spindle of a machine tool and a
workpiece submerged in electrolyte, stored in a
tank with abrasive grain dispersed therein, so as
to cause an electrophoretic phenomenon to
polishing the workpiece in the electrolyte.
The control parameters of the EPD process are
electricity density, polishing head revolutions,
working pressure on the surface, pH value of
electrolyte and buffing time, etc. The results
after experiments implemented show that the
electrophoretic polishing process can obtain the
desirable mirror-like surface.
