中文摘要

The purpose of the experiment was to study the effect of separation and mixed-sex raising on the performance of broilers. The experiment was divided into two trials. Trial 1 had 384 broilers, half male and half female. There were three treatments, male, female, and mixed-sex groups. Each treatment had 128 broilers, randomly distributed into 16 pens. The only difference for treatment 3 was that each pen had 4 males and 4 females. The broilers were weighed every week, until 5 weeks old. The feed consumed by each pen was measured every week. Trial 2 had 3000 broilers. Half of them were raised in open house, and the other in wet pad and forced ventilation house. Each house had three treatments, male (500), female (500), and mixed-sex groups (500). Broilers were weighed each week. Feed and water were provided ad lib. The results of trial 1 showed that males always had the best and females the worst performance. The phenomenon not only appeared in feed intake but also on weight gain and feed efficiency (P<0.05). The same trend happened in trial 2; however, the result did not reach a significant level (P>0.05).
