Sludge contains toxic substances such as heavy metals, after applying to the land, it is hazardous to the animals and plants. Hence, the objective of the study was to determine the effect of aerobic sludge concentration on the treatment response and heavy metals content. Different sludge concentration from wastewater settled for 1hr were used, 7 replications for each treatment, where Treatment 1: 70% of sludge, Treatment 2: 50% of sludge and Treatment 3: 30% of sludge. Sampling was commenced after pumping wastewater, followed by a sequencing batch reactor cycle, sampling was done before aeration stopped. After settling for 1hr, supernatant was collected. Sludge mixture was sampled after discarding the supernatant. Sludge was transferred to the air-drying platform, a layer of sludge was transferred daily. Wastewater BOD, COD, SS, TKN, TP, and moisture content of sludge were determined daily. CP, TP and heavy metals of air-dried samples were analyzed. Results indicated that the higher the sludge concentration, the better the treatment response. Heavy metals content increased with sludge concentration. Sludge moisture content decreased as the number of days of air-drying increased. The number of bacteria count in supernatant was lesser than sludge mixture.
