As rapid progress of modern society, people extend their lives since the modern society provides well medical services
and the aged society will come in the future. The situation of aged society makes the home care and emergency medical services
become very important. To achieve the goal of well-designed home care and emergency medical service, this paper proposes the
Home Care and Emergency Medical (SHEM) system based on the state-of-the-art wireless sensor networks (WSN) and Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID) to improve traditional services. This system overcomes the limitations of the traditional
healthcare by connecting the high quality healthcare and emergency medical environment from home to the hospital. SHEM
system uses the vital sign sensors, RFID and IP cameras to detect and collect the physiology signs and images of patient in the
home. Each patient could be equipped a RFID wristband tag, which stores the patient’s information including the historical
treatment and physiology records. Using SHEM system, the medical specialists can remotely monitor the patients’ health status
and perform necessary diagnosis at anywhere and at any time. System implementation results reveal that the proposed system can
provide an efficient and automatic home healthcare and first-aid processes.
