This study was to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with Acremonium
implicatum mycelium on production performance and egg quality during room temperature
storage. Sixty, 42-week-old Single Comb White Leghorn (SCWL) laying hens with similar
body weight and production performance were housed in individual cages and randomly
allocated into four dietary treatments; supplementation with 0, 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5% of
Acremonium implicatum mycelium inclusion. Experiment was carried out during a period for
7 weeks. The results showed that egg production of 0.5% group was higher than the control
(P<0.05), and egg mass was also higher than 0.1 and 0.3% groups (P<0.05) in whole
experimental period. However, at the 4th-week, the height of albumen and Haugh unit (HU)
after 3 d of storage increased with dosage levels in a quadratic response. The eggs at the
7th-week were stored at room temperature for 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 or 15 days and determined egg
quality. The height of albumin and HU of 0.1 and 0.3% groups were also higher than the
control after 3 d of storage. It appears that 0.1 and 0.3% dietary Acremonium implicatum
mycelium inclusion extended egg shelf life with keeping egg fresh during the egg storage
period.
