Femtosecond laser micromachining of a multi-D-shape fiber optics biosensor is presented. The dimension of a single D-shape zone was 100 μm in depth measured from the surface of the polymer jacket layer, and the length was 1 mm. The distance between neighborhood D-shape zones was 1 mm. The total length of a multi-D-shape fiber optics biosensor was from 3 mm to 7 mm. After thermal annealing treatment, the mean roughness of the surface was 231.7 nm determined by AFM. The multi-D-shape fiber optics as a high sensitive refractive-index sensor to detect changes in the surrounding refractive index was studied. The best refractive index resolution (sensor resolution = 3σ/m, σ = standard deviation of signal in measuring the blank, m = slope) in this study is 1.51×10-4 RIU (sensing length is 5 mm) for refractive indices in the range of 1.333 to 1.403.
