In this study, U-shaped optical fiber sensor in three types of fiber (O980/1000 μm plastic fiber, O600/630 μm and O400/430 μm glass fiber) and two grinding depth (one fifths and two fifths of core diameter) are made by fiber side-grinding system , The fiber sensors is used to sense sucrose solution (index range from 1.333 to 1.403 RIU) with sensing platform with high-power light emitting diode (λ=528nm), and analyze the sensing slope, standard deviation and sensor resolution of those fiber sensors. After the sensing test, different fiber types and grinding depths effect of sensor resolution is also analyzed.
The results show the plastic fiber (O980/1000 μm) got higher sensing slope and higher sensor resolution than glass fiber (O600/630 μm and O400/430 μm), and the best average sensing slope and sensor resolution is happened on O980/1000 μm plastic fiber with two fifth of core grinding depth.
