Soil erosion is generally evaluated using the Universal Soil Loss
Equation (USLE) with an appropriate regional scale description.
Rainfall erosivity, considering rainfall amount and intensity, is an
important parameter for soil erosion risk assessment under future land
use and climate change. Despite its importance, rainfall erosivity is
usually implemented in models with a low spatial and temporal
resolution. Accurate estimation of rainfall erosivity requires continuous
rainfall data; however, such data rarely demonstrate good spatial and
temporal coverage. In this study, the rainfall data (from 1993 to 2012)
in southern Taiwan were collected from the76 stations of the Central
Weather Bureau (CWB). The data set consists of 25,986 storm events.
Assessment of the correlation between erosivity and spatial by topo.
The results showed that monthly rainfall erosivity, seasonal rainfall
erosivity and annual rainfall erosivity increased with time. In spatial
distribution of trends suggested a relationship between elevation and
erosivity, with the latter increasing to about 1,000 m and then
decreasing to the lower values. The method developed in this study
may also be useful for sediment disasters on Climate Change.
