This study proposes a light-emitting-diode (LED) lighting system for indoor plant growth in that the grower can utilize remote control method through Ethernet with web-based graphic grower interface (GUI) to manage and monitor multi-band LED light intensity in greenhouse. The lighting system includes three wavelength bands of LED circuit loop, which allows grower to perform adjustment of light quality and quantity ratio to achieve lighting optimization. The proposed system consists of multi-band LED lamps, web server, and micro-controller based multi-loop LED drive modules. Three lighting modes that include automatic lighting schedule mode, manual mode, and lighting data pre-storage mode are programmed in proposed system. The LED lighting quality and intensity ratio within individual zones can be adjusted remotely in real time under manual mode. As a result, automatic lighting schedule mode can be temporarily interrupted during manual mode execution. The grower can observe plant growth and select certain lighting quality and light intensity ratio from the record data, which will be saved on fresh memory by the grower. In addition, the GUI provides several options including save, edit, update, and execute a file, which can be used by the grower to formulate the lighting plan. The experiment system is implemented on a double-layer (upper and lower) plant cultivation shelf which is divided into two lighting zones. The experiment results show the effectiveness of the proposed system with regards to precise control of photoperiod time, light quantity, and light quality.
