The frequency of extreme precipitation events influence precipitation pattern, precipitation intensity by climate change. Any changes in soil erosion will have great effects on long-term planning of soil and water conservation in Taiwan. Rainfall erosivity index (R) describes the soil loss potential caused by precipitation, which can be understood to change in correspondence to changes in extreme precipitation events.Spatial variation is investigated using 9 precipitation stations (from 2002 to 2012) in Xindian River Watershed in northern Taiwan.The results showed that the maximum precipitation (P) and Rainfall erosivity index (R) happened in northeast and southwest Xindian River Watershed. In Spatial variation of monthly,seasonal and wet and dry season, the maximum P and R happened during the May to October, spring and summer. Also, an increment in the rainfall erosivities was found as a result of the precipitation, R increases from northwest to southeast and from plain to mountain region. R is highly related with elevation.
