A meta-analysis on the application of Moodle was conducted to find out its effects on language teaching and learning. Results indicated that for sample size, the highest mean ES was associated with the studies with sample size between 51 and 100. Among the different types of research design, the highest mean ES was associated with studies which used the one group repeated measure design. Among the thirty studies, 20 (66.7%) studies employed large group instruction for the Moodle classes, while 10 (33.3%) for small group instruction. The highest mean ES was associated with studies with large group setting, which suggested that the application of Moodle on language learning was effective in large group settings. In terms of skill types, the highest mean ES was associated with critical thinking, followed by writing and speaking. Critical thinking is an important skill in language learning that basically can be integrated into any courses. It is, therefore, not surprising that among all the skills, it has the highest mean ES. Findings from the meta-analysis in this study could provide a basis for designing and developing a course applying Moodle.
