Metal injection molding (MIM) technology is a combination of powder metallurgy and injection molding process, and by using this technology one can produce precise mechanical parts for mass production. MIM has been widely accepted by the consumer electronics industry to produce tiny mechanical parts. Quality control is one of the most important parts in today's highly competitive consumer electronics industry. The high cost of manual inspection was the driving force for the development of automated vision system. Automated optical inspection (AOI) technology is widely used in different manufacturing processes such as PCB, TFT-LCD, and solar pad for a long time, and it could be used for the crack detection for MIM parts too. In this study, digital wavelet transform and gray level co-occurrence matrix are proposed for the crack detection of MIM components.
